What Causes Acne?

Have you ever wondered, What causes Acne? This problem often torments young people because acne appears at the worst time you could imagine, the time when you want to attract the opposite sex. However, acne is not the end of the world it is just a sign that you are maturing.

For with the start of puberty, your skin glands begin to increase in their activity. Each gland empties into a hair follicle. Normally the oil would drain out through a pore of the skin, but sometimes a pore gets clogged and the oil cannot get out. The clogged up pore will now form what's called a blackhead because the trapped oil oxidizes and turns black.

When a pore gets so clogged up  that no air can get to it, then instead of developing a blackhead, a whitehead forms. When pus builds up a pimple will develop. Cysts are caused when germs multiply in the backed-up oil. It is the cysts that are the trouble makers for they can leave permanent scars. Pimples do not leave scars unless they become infected. And they don't become infected unless you pick or squeeze them. So don't pick or squeeze them!

Is There a Cure for Acne?

Not at this time. There appears to be no one treatment for acne. An authority on acne, Dr. Sidney Hurwitz, points out that there are some medications available that can gradually help bring acne under control. Obviously, if the acne is severe then you should not wait to outgrow it, you probably should consider seeking the help of a dermatologist. They may prescribe an acne preparation or maybe even an antibiotic.

Patience however is the key to a successful treatment. Don't forget, the acne built up over quite a length of time, so it will not clear up overnight. There is no miracle cure for acne. The problem is that most people do not stick to their treatment plan once they see some initial results. For the best results, you should carefully follow any instructions given by your physician.

Realistically it might take 6 to 8 weeks even to notice changes in your skin. But it could take about a year for your skin to clear up completely. Because of this, your doctor may give you some timely advice saying: Be patient, don't expect a cure overnight.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Some people have found that by taking care of their overall physical health that their acne has improved. Some things that may improve your acne are getting regular exercise, going out in the fresh air, and getting proper sleep. It may also help to thoroughly cleanse your skin to  prevent dirt and perspiration and who knows whatever pollution is out there from clogging your pores. Some physicians claim that some triggers in diet play a big role in controlling acne and recommend reducing your fat content or restrict yourself from certain foods.
